Yoro hopes Maguire will extend Man Utd deal

Leny Yoro hopes Manchester United can agree terms with Harry Maguire over an extension before his contract runs out this summer.

"Having Harry in the team is good for us," Yoro said after United's 3-1 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

"If he can stay next season, it's really good for us, so I hope he's going to extend his contract and he can stay with us. We'll see, we'll see anyway.

"With all the experiences he has, he gave a lot of tips, he spoke to me a lot on the pitch, so this helped me a lot.

"He always speaks with me, sometimes he speaks before the game, or at half time, about positioning as well, so playing with him is really good for me.

"We speak a lot. Even before the game, during the week, we speak a lot about the opponent.

Everyone in the Manchester United squad wanted Casemiro to stay at Old Trafford, according to Leny Yoro

The 34-year-old has announced he is leaving at the end of the season when his contract ends.

Casemiro scored in Sunday's 3-1 win over Aston Villa and Old Trafford chanted for him to stay one more year.

United had the option to trigger an additional 12 months in the midfielder's deal but it was agreed for the Brazil international to go and a U-turn is not expected.

"Everyone wanted him to stay, he's a really important player for us, he showed it again today," Yoro said.

"Even in the dressing room, every day, he has the experience that no one else has in the team. He won everything, so this helped us a lot in the games and even outside the pitch."

Tudor to remain in charge against Atletico

Tottenham head coach Igor Tudor will take Tuesday's pre-Atletico Madrid news conference.

Speculation suggested Tudor was one defeat at Anfield away from being out of a job before Spurs snatched a surprise late 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Spurs have made it clear that Tudor, who had lost his first four games in charge, will be in post for Wednesday's Champions League round-of-16 second leg by disclosing to media that he is taking the pre-match news conference.

Spurs trail 5-2 on aggregate after Tudor masterminded a catastrophic first leg in Madrid, in which he handed goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky the humiliation of being subbed off after 17 minutes.

Laporta says Barcelona will be 'unstoppable' after re-election as president

Joan Laporta says Barcelona will be "unstoppable" after he was re-elected club president.

Laporta won more than 68 per cent of the vote, defeating Victor Font, to keep his job for a second consecutive term.

Barcelona will have Laporta as president for the next five years and he predicts big success for the club.

"This is a resounding result and it gives us great strength. It makes us unstoppable. No one will stop us.  Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives.

Neville: Man Utd need two top midfielders this summer

Icon

Gary Neville says Man Utd need to bring in at least two top central midfielders in the summer transfer window and has laid out the profile of signings his former club require.

United prioritised bolstering their attack over the summer, spending more than 200m on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Michael Carrick has relied on a midfield pair of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro but the Brazilian is set to leave at the end of the season and alternative options are slim in the current squad.

United moved one step closer to Champions League qualification with Sunday's 3-1 win over Aston Villa, cementing their place in third, and Neville warns they need reinforcements to cope with the tougher fixture schedule.

"The centre of midfield  is a problem," Neville said on his Your Site podcast. "Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro are doing a great job right now for Michael Carrick.

"However, every Man Utd fans in this stadium know that is going to be nowhere near enough when they start playing in the Champions League next season.

It is more than likely they will [qualify] and when they play a bit "further in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and they are playing in the Champions League they are going to need three or four really good midfielder players.

"At the moment you've got Mainoo, a midfield player you can buy into, but you can't really look at any of the others and think that is going to work.

"Casemiro is leaving and Manuel Ugarte I think will leave. They need two really good central midfield players. Probably one that's more positional, like a Michael Carrick-type, and one that's more of a destroyer.

"I do think the back needs looking at but the midfield would be the real focus in the summer transfer window."

'Spurs sounding out eight coaches to replace Tudor'

Tottenham are sounding out up to eight coaches to replace Igor Tudor, according to TalkSport.

The report claims Tudor was informed of this development before Spurs claimed their first point since he took charge by snatching a late draw at Liverpool.

Spurs produced their best performance of Tudor's reign at Anfield but it remains to be seen if it will save his job until the end of the season.

This report claimed a decision could move quickly if Spurs had lost at Liverpool.

Sean Dyche, Robbie Keane, Roberto De Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino and Ryan Mason are the names cited by TalkSport.

Carra: Reds must address problem position in summer

Liverpool must add another central midfielder this summer with the club failing to control the latter stages of games, says Your Site' Jamie Carragher.

Speaking towards the end of the Reds' game with Tottenham at Anfield, Carragher highlighted Alexis Mac Allister as fading towards the end of matches and said the Argentine needed support to help the Reds see out results.

"The longer the game goes in every game, Mac Allister struggles and thats a real problem for Liverpool, the centre of midfield," he said.

"Its something they have to address in the summer, or whether Szoboszlai goes back to the central midfield position.

"When Jones comes on and the game goes end to end, I dont know why he takes the Wirtz position.

"Hes not that player anyway, just go 4-3-3 and have an extra body in front of the back four. Theres too much space."

Liverpool trigger extension in Alisson contract

Icon

Latest from Your Site News reporter Vinny O'Connor:

Liverpool have triggered an option to extend goalkeeper Alisson Beckers contract until 2027.

Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer of 2024 and, after he spent last season on loan at Valencia, he joined the Reds' squad for this campaign.

However, Alisson has remained Arne Slot's No 1 when fit, and is now set to retain the role next season, too.

The Brazilian joined Liverpool from Roma in 2018 and the extension will take him into a ninth season at Anfield.
